Reviews of Relaxation Audio
by Simon McGrath

www.relaxationreviews.org

Over the years I have bought a lot of relaxation tapes and CDs on the web, as I find they can be very helpful with my illness (I have ME/CFS). But I soon discovered two big problems:
1)   Many of the relaxations sold are really not very good.
2)   Many of them are sold with little more information than the title itself (usually some variation of "Splendid Relaxation", which isn't very helpful).

Too often I spent £10 on a tape or CD that I only played a couple of times. What I really wanted to find was something like the book review page of a magazine, that would show me where to find tapes/CDs and give some pointers as to what they were like. Unfortunately nothing like that existed at the time, so I set up this web site to help people find good guided relaxations. Since then I've added sections on relaxation for Pain, relaxation music (including online ambient radio) and online guided relaxations.

There is no guarantee that you will like the items that I recommend here, but the reviews and audio clips should give you some idea of what you are buying, and I do focus on relaxations that I know other people have enjoyed too. More recently, online audio relaxations have started to appear and I review these, as well as a few free mp3 downloads.

If you don't like any of the tapes, CDs or audio files I recommend then please tell me!

Non-profit

This site doesn't take adverts, make commission from referrals or make any money at all; it is simply set up to help people find good relaxations on the web. I only post reviews on tapes/CDs that I think are very good, are likely to appeal to many people and are reasonably priced.

UPDATE: As a trial, you can now buy Andrew Johnson's Deep Relaxation CD direct from my site, but please note that I make no money from this and the site remains non-profit - instead, Andrew has cut the price from £12.99 to £10 inc. p&p.

Price/value is a common reason tapes & CDs don't make this site (why include a good relaxation CD costing £15 when there are many equally good relaxation CDs for around £10?). Delivery costs are given too as some prices include shipping while some sites don't give the shipping cost until check out. I have tried to identify the cheapest supplier for each tape or CD that I recommend, but again, if you know of a cheaper supplier then please let me know. Price and availability are checked regularly.

I also review some of the growing number of free online/downloadable relaxations, most of which come from non-profits like the BBC.

This site was much helped by the many excellent free resources on the web, particularly:
Promotion - Selfpromotion.com. Gives invaluable advice on designing search-engine friendly sites and on submitting to the big directories.
Log File Analysis - AWStats. Gives user friendly stats showing how people reach your site and how they use it (also has links to other free stats software sites).
Photo Libraries - Get the pixel is basic but handy. NOAA (sunsets, marine life and more) is one of several US government photo libraries that are copyright-free.
